  • Morning Service

    18th August 2019 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
Carryduff Baptist Church, Hillsborough Road, Carryduff, United Kingdom - see a map

Everyone is welcome to join us for our services - some people will dress more formally for church, but many come casually ... we're pretty relaxed about that. Children are welcome and, if you need it, we have a crèche where you can take your children and still see the service and listen over the speakers.

We meet to sing hymns and songs to God: some old and some new, but all expressing our joy, our hopes, and our trust in Jesus Christ. We also pray, usually the pastor or one of the elders will pray but occasionally we throw it open to whoever wants, to lead us in prayer. And, at the heart of the service, we open the Bible - God's word - and listen to a sermon explaining what the Bible has to say and what it means for us today: it usually last about half an hour.

On Sunday mornings we also eat a simple meal together - just a piece of bread and a small drink - which is something Jesus commanded us to do when we gather to worship. Everyone who is a Christian takes the bread and the cup and through them we are reminded that Jesus' body, was broken and given to us, and that Jesus' blood, like the cup, was poured out so that we might be saved from our sins.

Altogether our morning service usually lasts about an hour and a half.

  • Prayer Meeting

    20th August 2019 @ 8:00 pm - 9:25 pm
Carryduff Baptist Church, Hillsborough Road, Carryduff, United Kingdom - see a map

Tuesday night is our mid-week service and everyone is welcome to come along. We meet at 8pm in our smaller prayer room. We usually open with a single hymn and prayer and then spend time studying the Bible. Although it's a sermon at heart, we like to provide an opportunity to ask questions on Tuesday night, to have people speak out at any point during the sermon to clarify, or to ask for something to be explained more fully. It's a great opportunity to talk about something that was said on Sunday, or just something that's been on your mind.
After the study, which is usually about 30-40 minutes (depending on how many questions there are!) we spend some time in prayer. It's simply left open for anyone who wants, to lead us in prayer, but there's no obligation to do so - you're welcome to simply pray in silence with us. We usually spend some time before this sharing needs and opportunities with one another, things that we'd particularly like the people to pray for that night, and later in their own prayers.
We usually finish up about 9:25pm

  • @NIvoicless abortion protest at Stormount

    6th September 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Stormount Estate - see a map

Organised by @NIvoiceless this is a silent protest against the Westminster vote imposing abortion on Northern Ireland by 21st October if the Stormount Executive has not been reformed by that date.
    The silent protest says:

    • We were not asked - Westminster has legislated for us without hearing us. Every sitting Northern Ireland MP voted against these changes, the people of Northern Ireland were not consulted, and there is no public support in Northern Ireland for the kind of wholesale legalisation of abortion that has been planned.
    • They cannot speak - Westminster has ignored the unborn child. The human individuals whose lives will be ended if abortion is legalised have no voice in the debate and may speeches in parliament dehumanised the unborn child and disregarded its value and right to life

People of all ages and all religious and political persuasions have been invited to take part. The protest is not affiliated with any religious or political organisation or campaign group. It has been planned by concerned citizens of Northern Ireland who wish to express their deep dissatisfaction with this intended change in a law we consider to be good.

The protest will gather at the lower gates of Stormount Estate at 7pm. At the blow of a whistle we will walk silently and slowly to the foot of the steps to Parliament Buildings where we will stand in silence, heads bowed and lights held high for six minutes (one for each country) until another whistle is blown.
