The Bible says,
The LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being
Genesis 2:7
But man sinned and was separated from God, and man without God is just dust.
for dust you are and to dust you will return
Genesis 3:19
And it’s that reality that the book of Ecclesiastes explores, the reality that we, and our world, and the societies and cultures we build in it, are all just so much dust. We are dust, but the Bible’s message is that we are God’s dust, because it is out of such dust that he makes for himself sons and daughters. But before we can receive the reality of that hope, we have to accept the reality of our condition. And so our study of the book of Ecclesiastes is called, “God’s Dust”.
As we embark on this study we want to encourage everyone to be reading it daily as we go. So we’ve prepared a reading plan to take us through the book together. The passages are short so take time to reflect each day and ask:
- What’s something I never thought of before?
- What questions do I have?
- What did I learn about loving God
- What did I learn about love others?
The reading plan is available here as a small bookmark which you can download and print out:
